In the darkness of the soil
a seed is planted
all things must descend
before they rise.

in this unknowing
shall a new impulse arise
a truthful one
that will guide it to sprout
out
into the light

are called on our journeys of descent
to be undone
to be cracked up
to let our authentic selves
rise back at dawn
Darkness is the womb from which we were all birthed. From darkness we emerge into the light. This psychic and embodied landscape is a place we are invited to regularly pilgrim too as human beings if we want to keep the rhythms of our lives in tune with the authenticity of soul.
However, in our modern days darkness is a territory we are taught to fear, to run away from or reject. In our light obsessed culture we have marginalised those aspects of self that are not deemed necessary, loveable, desired and these have become unconscious material that, nonetheless, guides our life. Exiled ones that long for reconciliation.
Moreover, when darkness emerges (as it naturally does) as a limit, as resistance, as loss, as change, we have no grammar to speak about it, no practices to meet it, no container to hold it. As we keep walking away from these experiences of the dark, we start walking more and more away from our aliveness, from the truth of who we are. Suddenly we question:
We question, have I always been like this? Will I forever live like this?
These are troubled times, times that ask us to become more and more awake. We cannot afford to turn away. We cannot think of reclaiming our true power without learning about the descent in the dark. As we dive inside, in the wild and delicate territory that darkness is, we begin to restore a capacity to see in the dark and to create the right conditions for a new expression of self to emerge. One that is authentic to the now. One that does not live in denial and separation but, rather, in awe, curiosity and connection with the dark.

This territory is what we will be exploring in our container. A place of richness, a place of complexity, a space of reclamation and reconciliation of parts. Here the dark becomes​ a place to find refuge, to rest the ideas of who we thought we were and listen to what is actually true and real. The dark becomes then our most powerful teacher. In these shadowy realms we learn to perceive in a different way, we dissolve old structures, we let go of what is no longer necessary, we find a wider vision, one that is attuned to the pulse of soul. The dark, from this point of view, is the great womb, filled with potentiality and possibility.

This will be a somatic, mythopoetic, intimate exploration of darkness. We will be meeting on Thursdays for fiv 2hrs sessions and, during each session, we will be exploring different aspects of the dark and different embodied ways of connecting, exploring and alchemizing what we meet. The course intends to be a transformative journey of both descent in the body, in the stories held in the dark caves of our inner landscapes and, also , an imaginative and soulful exploration of darkness through inquiry, through poetry, myth, story, active imagination, ritual, ceremony and more.

We begin with the acknowledgment that darkness is not a curse, nor an experience to push away of escape from, rather a fertile place, that invites us into encounter life and our own truest selves in their fullness. We commence knowing that to descend in the dark is a way to reclaim our own fecundity, our own wilderness, our own authenticity, our own love for life. The deepest work is, indeed and often, in the dark, here we reclaim our own connection to the Earth and the stream of life that flows through us.

In the dark we meet our soul and her own unique, feral, subtle, tender, awake, loving, powerful essence.

This is more than a course, it is a mytho-somatic initiation, an opportunity to learn ways to attune inside and meet the messy, unwanted, shadowy landscapes within. It is a journey of dissolution & rebirth.

The journey of descent is one of reclamation of our own power. It is an alchemical journey. We enter the liminal, beneath our conscious mind, beneath the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and the world. Here, in the dark, in our own soma, reside our fears, our patterning, our most exiled aspects of self, yet also, in the dark womb of our own being is where our most essential nature.

As we learn to see in the dark, we begin to meet other forms of being, of perceiving. Sometimes we receive visions, other times we hear guidance, yet other times we simply rest in the spaciousness of what is. In the dark we are both humbled and brought back to life.
​
The journey will provide you tools to listen inside, to empty, to undo, to move, transform, give voice and allow yourself to express what is most alive within you.

In our descent we learn to listen rather than react, we learn to feel rather than think, explore the stories and mythologies stored in our flesh, we challenge them, we love them, we dance with them, we offer them to them out to Life, we make them our allies, rather than our enemies, we find ways to express what is most authentic to us at this time, we allow new visions to emerge and be birthed once again.
